This is something that came up a few weeks ago and I wanted to share it. First off, it’s not what you think it would be. God saying no to me is the reason I’m here.

Before I even knew about the race I was planning on going to a community college and starting a career in construction. But I was never really looking forward to it; very unenthusiastic about it. I was all set up to start taking classes in the fall this year actually. But then I went to the Dominican Republic and God gave me a big old no for these plans and told me to go on the World Race. This was the first time He said no to me, the second time came pretty soon after.

I signed up for the race with the idea of doing college and starting my construction career next year after the race, but God said no to these plans again and told me he wants me to continue being missionary and to give up these plans.

Honestly though, I’m not even, for one second, even try to question these one’s. Being a missionary is 1000x better than anything I can think of. You get to travel to different places, meet/live with other believers and missionaries, but most of all, spread God’s love and make him known. Seriously what’s better than that?

I’m so thankful that God said no to me, twice. Because I have no idea where I would be or where I would end up if I didn’t come on this trip and be saved.

“I will say to the Lord, ‘He is my fortress, my God, in whom I trust’.” Psalm 91:2

  1. Oh Caleb, how often does God’s “no” turn into a better “yes?” His plans far above our own! Isn’t it refreshing to walk His path? Keep trusting Him alone. I’m praying for all of Squad H this Christmas week. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Hi Caleb,
A very happy birthday to you! Wish we could send you a gift. For now, our gift is our prayer for your health and happiness, and that God will continue to direct you in the ways you should go. We so appreciate the fact that you have a blog. It keeps us connected and we are always glad to read your messages.
Hope someone can make you a cake or something special for your birthday. Celebrate it in any way you can.
Rachel and Isaac have come home for the new year. We saw them a short time last night and hope to see them again on Saturday. They had Tuba with them and he has grown quite a bit but is still a bit shy with strangers.
Take good care and know that you are deeply loved. Happy, happy, BIFRTHDAY.

  3. There’s something special about a “holy no.” People don’t often talk about God’s no’s, but I find that God’s no’s have saved me in a lot of ways. It would be able to get frustrated and think God is withholding from us, but it encourages me to know that my Father never withholds from me. If there is a no, it means He has something greater in store. And my sacrifice is obeying His no, with faith in my spirit and praise on my lips, ready to receive something only God could dream up for me.
